Google Review QR Codes for Restaurants: What Works and What to Avoid
A straightforward guide to using Google review QR codes on receipts and table cards without pressuring diners or violating review policies.
Build the QR code from your own review link
Use the “Ask for reviews” option in your Google Business Profile to obtain a link, then create a QR code that opens it. Test it with multiple phones before printing.
Place it where it makes sense
A takeaway bag insert, receipt or thank-you card gives guests the choice to respond later. A large code demanding a review before a guest leaves can feel intrusive.
Ask for honest feedback
Use neutral wording such as “Enjoyed your visit? We’d value your honest review.” Do not offer discounts or free items in exchange for reviews, and do not ask only satisfied guests.
Keep the design readable
Include a short explanation next to the code, use sufficient contrast, and leave enough white space around it to scan. A short text URL can help when scanning fails.
Measure without overclaiming
Track changes in review volume over several weeks and ask staff whether customers understand the card. QR-code scans or new reviews do not directly prove additional revenue.
